School Closings

HOW WILL FAMILIES/STAFF BE NOTIFIED?

All school closing information will be communicated by administration through:

  • Emergency Alert Notification System*

  • Triton App

  • Social Media

  • Local Media Outlets – such as, but not limited to, KTTC, KAAL ABC 6, KIMT, and KROC

*Families with students in the district are automatically enrolled in our Emergency Alert Notification System provided they include a cell # during registration.

If you are not receiving emergency alerts, contact your school's office.

WHY WOULD THE DISTRICT CONSIDER CLOSING/DELAYING THE SCHOOL DAY?

The decision to close or delay the school day may be the result of inclement weather, loss of power, water main break and/or other emergency situations that may occur within the district.

Closings, late starts, and early dismissals are inherently difficult for many programs and families. With this in mind, Administration will do its best to keep these to a minimum. Early dismissals will be determined as conditions dictate. All families should have a contingency plan for their student(s) in the event of school closings.

WHO MAKES THE DECISION TO CLOSE SCHOOL?

The Superintendent or their designee decides all school closings and/or schedule changes in consultation with other staff, and may include consultation with local city/county personnel and neighboring school districts, as appropriate.

There are three primary factors that go into the decision to cancel school due to inclement weather: road conditions, visibility, and projections for incoming weather during the course of the day. The Superintendent works with the Transportation Manager to verify the conditions of the roads, the ability for all buses to operate safely and for drivers to be able to arrive in time for routes to run. As we evaluate these factors, keeping our students, staff, and families safe is our highest priority.

Decisions on school closings and late starts will be made as early as possible – either the night before or as early in the morning as possible, typically by 5:30 a.m.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLOSING POLICY

Whenever the school is closed due to weather or emergencies, all Community Education activities, walking the halls, and events are canceled along with any outside user group practices.

COBRA CARE CHILD CARE CLOSING POLICY

A. Early School Dismissals Due to the Weather or Emergency

CC will be open for 3 hours following the school dismissal time. Parents will be notified through the automated system of Triton Public Schools.  If a parent or designated person has not picked up their child within the 3 hours, late charges will be enforced.  Early Dismissal means the storm or emergency is upon us/ impending so children/staff need to get home.

B. School Begins 2 Hours Late

CC will be open at 6AM (Unless superintendent/Governor deems otherwise) and students will stay at the child care center.  If school subsequently becomes closed for the day during this 2 hour delay time, CC will be open until 4PM.   Parents will be notified through the automated system of Triton Public Schools of the CLOSING.  If a parent or designated person has not picked up their child within this timeframe, late charges will be enforced.

C. School Closed For the Entire Day

Cobra Care will now be following the Triton Public School Districts decisions regarding weather.  If the Triton Public School District closes due to inclement weather, CC will be CLOSED.

**It is expected that each family will reference the above policy to plan accordingly regarding CC and availability.  No refunds of fees are made for school closing due to Inclement Weather.
